Young Hearts - San Diego Sleep Out for Emmanuel May 15, 2008
On one night in early April a committed group of Young Hearts gathered at a cafe in Escondido, CA to raise money for beds for the children of Emmanuel Khayelethu. They slept on the floor of the cafe just like the children of Emmanuel were sleeping on the floor in their small rental home in Swaziland every night.
Their goal was to raise the funds needed to purchase 36 beds, one for each child in the home. After a night of music from local musicians, poetry readings from Young Hearts, and sharing the stories of the children at Emmanuel, the group was successful. In one night, the group raised the $3,600 needed to purchase the beds. And today, the beds are in the rental home and are ready to be moved to the new Emmanuel Khayelethu later this summer.

Emmanuel Khayelethu Fund Raising Success May 15, 2008
The land is being cleared and the building is about to begin. In early April, we announced the Matching Funds Campaign for Emmanuel Khayelethu. Our goal was to raise $120,000 to build the first dorm at the new property. We are so pleased to report that you answered our call. In just 30 days, you gave $101,175. Thank you so much for your generosity. We are still working towards the end goal of $120,000 and hope to close out this drive by June 15.

Emmanuel Khayelethu Matching Funds Campaign April 07, 2008
Emmanuel Khayelethu is a refuge for many children who have all come to the home from extreme situations. Some dropped off by Social Services, some found on the side of the road, all suffering from abuse, beatings and fallout of the AIDS pandemic. One young girl was abducted from Mozambique and taken to Swaziland to work in the sex trade. After many months she escaped from her abductors and somehow made it to Emmanuel. She was too young and had been gone too long to know where she was from in Mozambique so they were unable to return her to her home. Emmanuel has been her home for several years.
Hixonia Nxumalo, a faithful and caring woman who has struggled for years to provide for these 30+ children with minimal support from friends and family, founded Emmanuel. The children have lived in a rented home until December 2007 when it succumbed to a bad fire. They have moved to another rented home where the children sleep on the floor, eat on the floor, and pray for better days. It is time for us to help.
We thank God that funds have been provided to buy 50 acres of land so that we can build these children a real home where they will be loved and cared for as children of the mighty God. But we need help to fund the building of this home.
We need to raise a total of $120,000 to put a well on the new property and build a home for these children.
A very generous woman has offered to match all donations up to $40,000 made between now and April 30th to build this new home so we only need an additional $80,000. Can you help? It will house 50 desperate children. Can you imagine? Here is a basic breakdown of the needs.
