The New Merciful Redeemer
May 15, 2008

As you may know we were blessed to have a hugely successful fundraising campaign in February that provided all the funds needed for construction of the girls dorm, boys dorm and kitchen at the new Merciful Redeemer site. Further funds were raised by a team at Roswell United Methodist Church in Alpharetta, Georgia to begin the building for a new school so that the children can continue their education when they move.

Construction has begun at the home. A group of volunteers from Heart for Africa will be at the home from July 7 - July 17. Our hope is to move the children from the slum where they are currently living into their new home during this service trip. If the home is not ready, the team will plant the gardens and do construction work on the home to prepare the home for the children. Please join us in prayer for the quick completion of the home if it is God's will that the children move during July.

Beds for Kids from Here to There
April 07, 2008

North Forsyth Young Hearts is up to something big and we’d love to tell you about it, and invite you to join us. There is an orphanage within Kenya known as Merciful Redeemer and it is in desperate need of beds. The orphans are accustomed to sharing a single bed with multiple children. While this is a lot in itself, the beds they have to share are rusty and old and they often times sleep on the springs without a mattress.

The NFHS Young Hearts team has been raising funds to purchase one hundred new beds, which cost $115 each. The beds are bunk style twin beds and they will be put together by some of the North Forsyth Young Hearts along with other team members planning to travel to Kenya July 7 – 17. Each bed will come with its own mattress and a blanket.

Merciful Redeemer’s sixty plus children are going to be moved into their new home this summer. They currently live in a harsh, unsanitary, unsafe environment bordering Kibera slum. The children will be moving to a beautiful piece of farm land recently purchased by generous supporters. Seven acres of green grass with lots of space for growing vegetables and caring for milk cows too. Funds are being raised by Heart for Africa and other organizations to relocate the children to their new land this summer. The new facility will have room for 100 children. That means 30+ children will be able to come off the streets and live in safety where they will be loved, cared for, educated, and have healthy food to eat everyday. With your help, they will also have sturdy, soft, clean, warm beds in their new home.

The North Forsyth High School Young Hearts group is working hard to raise enough money for all this to happen because they care, and they know that these children need help. This project, however, is too big for the group to accomplish on its own. So we are inviting you to be a part of this mission, and in doing so you will be changing the life of a child by giving them a warm, safe place to sleep at night.

Please join us. We’d love to work together with you and make a difference for these children. Only $115 and each child will have their own place to sleep each night. It’s something each one of us enjoy every night, let’s make it happen for the children at Merciful Redeemer too.

You Are Cordially Invited...
April 07, 2008

David Kariuki, Heart for Africa’s Kenya Coordinator, is getting married! He will be marrying the beautiful Keziah Murugi. Keziah is 23 years old and works at the Children’s Garden home in Nairobi. We had the privilege of meeting her in November while in Kenya and are thrilled to welcome her in to our family.

David has asked that we extend an invitation to each of you who traveled with us to Tumaini in 2007. As the wedding will take place on July 12th in Nairobi we have been able to link it directly with the Heart for Africa trip serving at Merciful Redeemer from July 7 to July 17. We ask that you would consider coming with us to serve and celebrate in July. What an exciting gift we will all receive by being able to attend an African wedding and to share in David’s joy. He is a true gift from God and deserves happiness, joy and peace.

“I met Keziah on one of my outings and we developed a mutual liking towards each other, we shared our past and our future inspirations and I believe God want us to become one blessed family.” - David
