Water for Tumaini
May 15, 2008
Access to clean drinking water at a children's home is key to the success of the home. At Tumaini Children's Home, the need was even greater with the GOA Education Centre on the property providing education to the children of Tumaini and many others from the surrounding community.
To provide for this need, a water tank has just been completed on the property. This water tank will meet the daily needs of the home and the school. The water tank was funded by donations to Heart for Africa from Chandler Gilliam, a Milton High School student in Alpharetta, GA, and the Community Reformed Church in Charlevoix, MI. Chandler raised his funds by selling "I Have a Heart for Africa" wrist bands for $5 a piece. Chandler presented the funds to Bishop David Thagana from GOA along with his wife, Joyce, earlier this year at an event in the Atlanta area.

Treasures at Tumaini
April 07, 2008

If you listen very closely, if you close your eyes and try to imagine it, you might be able to hear and see the thankfulness that comes from the students at Tumaini. School is in session and the children are doing beautifully. No more overcrowded classrooms, no more long walks to school each morning and afternoon on rainy, wet days. The children are thriving in their beautiful new school sitting at their sturdy desks. Desks that many of you provided sitting in classrooms that many of you helped build; evidence of God’s provision to us all.
The children at Tumaini Academy, both those who live at Tumaini and those who attend the school from the surrounding community, now enjoy days of excellent learning, in well built classrooms, where their minds can increase with knowledge and their hearts feel loved each day. These children smile easily and are thankful for the opportunity they have been given to live, learn, and grow in this safe, beautiful place. We can never thank you enough for the part you played in this.
If you are not already making plans to return with us to Tuamini, we ask that you consider doing so. There is still much to be done. But for now we pause, and give thanks for all that has been accomplished. You made a difference – and their lives will forever be blessed because you did. Thank you!

You Are Cordially Invited...

David Kariuki, Heart for Africa’s Kenya Coordinator, is getting married! He will be marrying the beautiful Keziah Murugi. Keziah is 23 years old and works at the Children’s Garden home in Nairobi. We had the privilege of meeting her in November while in Kenya and are thrilled to welcome her in to our family.
David has asked that we extend an invitation to each of you who traveled with us to Tumaini in 2007. As the wedding will take place on July 12th in Nairobi we have been able to link it directly with the Heart for Africa trip serving at Merciful Redeemer from July 7 to July 17. We ask that you would consider coming with us to serve and celebrate in July. What an exciting gift we will all receive by being able to attend an African wedding and to share in David’s joy. He is a true gift from God and deserves happiness, joy and peace.

“I met Keziah on one of my outings and we developed a mutual liking towards each other, we shared our past and our future inspirations and I believe God want us to become one blessed family.” - David
