Swaziland is a small country located in southern Africa that
is home to approximately one million people. The needs
in Swaziland are staggering, as HIV/AIDS claims the lives
of an estimated 42% of the population. It is the elderly
and the children who are left with an entire generation
of mothers and fathers yielding to the deadly effects
of this disease. The life expectancy in Swaziland is
the lowest in all of Africa at 29 years.
Currently it is estimated that there
are 70,000+ orphans and vulnerable children in Swaziland.
Considering existing health conditions, it is estimated
that in 2010 there will be 130,000+ orphans and vulnerable
children in Swaziland.
In Swaziland, Heart for Africa is working
with three children's homes, El
Shaddai, New Hope Center,
and Emmanuel Khayelethu.
