Internship 2019

Internship 2019

We are pleased to announce our 2019 Summer Internship Program.  We are looking for people with a heart to serve with us from June 8th to July 25th, 2019.

We have 7 positions available for our 2019 summer internship program.  Interns will be living in a remote area of eSwatini.  They will stay in dorm rooms at The Lodge on Project Canaan.  There will be adult supervision, and safety will be of utmost importance.

Each individual must be completely committed to serving wherever and whenever they are needed, whether that means packing lunches, washing cars, helping at the baby home or washing dogs.  The days are long, work is never-ending, and schedules change, so individuals must be willing to jump in where they are most needed.  The workers who live on Project Canaan work six days per week with Sunday being a day of rest (which includes church, laundry, and catching up on personal things).  This schedule will apply to our interns, as they will be part of this community.  Applicants must be very organized, computer literate (specifically Excel) and a strong team player.

There are specific roles for which you can apply.  We ask you to list the position you are applying for in order of your preference.  Those positions are:

1.  Education:  One intern will work side-by-side with teachers and assistants under the direction of our Head Teacher, Amber VanWinkle.

2.  Maintenance/Property Management:  Two interns who possess basic skills in repairs, landscaping, moving/hauling and anything else that is needed on the property.  This person will work with Denis Musoyka, our head of maintenance.

3.  Children's Program Assistant:  Two interns who will work on daily children's programming and special activity preparation for our July 10th Anniversary trip with Bryan Throgmorton, our Children's Program Director.

4.  Hospitality:  One intern will help with volunteers coming and going from Swaziland.  He or she will work with Chris Cheek.

5.  Team Leader:  Former Heart for Africa Intern who is willing to come back and serve again. Must posses strong leadership skills, be self-motivated, and be at a point in their walk with Jesus that they can encourage and disciple others.

Students who apply must have the following qualifications:

  • Christian, believer and follower of Jesus Christ
  • Be 18 years of age or older prior to the travel date of July 8th, 2019
  • Be willing/able to leave from the US on June 8th and return back to the US on July 25th (exceptions will be considered on an individual basis)
  • Be willing/able to raise your own travel funds.  The ground cost of $3,365.00 includes lodging, ground transportation and food (this does not include the cost of the flight to Africa).  You can book your own flight or we can book for you.  Flight costs will be determined based on your city of departure at the time of booking.  You must have enough funds in your account in order for us to book your flight.
  • Provide your own medical insurance
