Marketing Manager


Job Overview


Heart for Africa is looking for an experienced Marketing Manager to develop and manage marketing programs in specific channels; specifically working to expand our reach, engagement and conversion with our customers and donors. This position must foster customer retention and amplify the organization’s values, including our purpose of bringing HOPE to Eswatini. Overall, the Marketing Manager must advance the brand strategy to resonate with customers and donors and build long-term relationships. 


This position will essentially run marketing strategies for two entities: Heart for Africa and Khutsala™ Artisans. Khutsala Artisans is our home décor and jewelry business (production is based in Eswatini). This includes managing the Shopify store, Affiliate and Ambassador programs, potential retail location(s), as well as other channels used to sell products.


In general, we need someone that knows how to build a brand. Heart for Africa has an incredible “product” and is very unique- you will not find another organization like ours (check out our website –– for more information). The Marketing Manager needs to develop and maintain a strategy to reach a new donor base, as well as engage with our current donors to provide long-term growth for our organization.


This position will report to David Bryant, Chief Development Officer, but will also engage with Janine Maxwell, COO & Heart for Africa’s co-founder. Direct reports for the Marketing Manager include: 

  • Content Strategist
  • Marketing Coordinator
  • Warehouse Manager


Responsibilities for Marketing Manager

  • Strategize and implement specific marketing tactics to fulfill objectives across channels and segments in support of our overall strategic marketing plan
  • Evaluate the impact of marketing programs in achieving their stated objectives, including impact on lead flow, LTV and retention (understanding not only which metrics to use to evaluate performance, but actually evaluating those metrics is KEY while then translating analysis into action)
  • Must understand SEO and how to elevate all digital channels
  • Propose and manage marketing research projects to generate consumer insights in support of improved marketing strategy and communications
  • Work with creative teams, other internal stakeholders, and external agencies and vendors
  • Provide reports and analysis to COO, CDO and Board of Directors on performance, progress towards goals and for use in strategy development 
  • Lead the execution of marketing programs from start to finish, driving collaboration with the stakeholders and leveraging the right internal processes
  • Manage a marketing team (positions listed above)  


Qualifications for Marketing Manager

  • Experience building complex marketing programs and reporting on the results
  • Experience with e-commerce and building B2C sales channels
  • Competence as a creative writer with an eye for great emails and engaging content
  • Strong understanding of Google Ads and Facebook Ads 
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong problem-solving ability, including metrics-driven thinking
  • Ability to travel as necessary
  • We’re looking for someone with 4+ years of experience in marketing, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or Business or similar, and is familiar with the following software/tools:
