Trips

Heart for Africa trips focus in four specific areas: Hunger, Orphans, Poverty, and Education.  Participating in an 11-day service trip with Heart for Africa will make an eternal impact in your life and the lives of those you go and serve in Swaziland.

Please note that each trip fills on a first come, first served basis. Your initial deposit secures your initial reservation for a specific trip, but the reservation must be maintained by meeting the funding deadlines we will provide to you in communications following your registration. The costs of the trips include lodging, meals, supplies, ground transportation, administrative fees and airfare (if you have elected for Heart for Africa to arrange the air portion of your trip).  Due to cost and exchange rate adjustments, any remaining funds will go toward general support of the mission.  Please note that all donations towards your trip's cost are non-refundable, tax-deductible donations to Heart for Africa to the full extent allowed by law.

Sample Trip Description (*itineraries are subject to change to fit the needs of each individual trip)

Day One - Saturday:  Depart from North America.

Day Two – Sunday:  Arrive in Johannesburg and overnight at the City Lodge Airport Hotel.

Day Three – Monday:  Drive to Swaziland, check in, & group orientation.

Day Four/Five – Tuesday/Wednesday:  All teams go to Project Canaan where they will get a three-hour tour of the project to include:  Children's homes, Project Canaan Academy, egg barns, dairy, Aquaponics greenhouse, Kufundza Vocational Training Center and the El Rofi Medical Center.  Teams will get to work serving in areas of need based on skill set (painting, greenhouses, construction, woodworking, planting, watering). Teams will also be provided with information on a Project Canaan family whom they will visit the following day.  The number of family members, ages and sizes will be provided so that the team can prepare clothing, and food from Project Canaan and get instructions for the visit.

Day Six – Thursday:  Each team will be assigned two Project Canaan families in need. The team will drive to Project Canaan and collect the supplies and food for the family visit.  They will also bring clothing for that family if available from the “second suitcase” of donated clothing that people may have brought with them.  The team will continue to serve that family by visiting them, praying with them, and listening to and encouraging them.  This is a great opportunity to get to see Swazi culture up close while developing a relationship with an individual family who is in need and who we want to provide extra support to.

Day Seven – Friday:  Individual volunteers will have the opportunity to spend the day on a game drive (safari) and a market shopping expedition or they can choose to serve at Project Canaan.

Day Eight – Saturday:  Volunteers can participate with Kids Club and enjoy the activities of the day with the children, or continue on with work projects.

Day Nine – Sunday:  Volunteers attend Children's Church in the morning and then enjoy the afternoon with the children, or can enjoy an afternoon of rest and reflection.

Day Ten – Monday:  Individuals will check out of the hotel, stop at the Glass Factory, and take the five hour bus ride back to Johannesburg for an evening flight back to the US and Canada.

Day Eleven – Tuesday:  Everyone arrives back home and begins to think and pray about how they can help the people they got to know and love in Swaziland.
